Medicine essay example: Abortion

Abortion is thought by some, to be the evil of our time. I, on the other hand, support the right to choose and the act of abortion. Over 1/3 of graduating high school seniors have experienced a pregnancy ending with an abortion, giving them a chance to finish school. If the mother herself

is not allowed to make a decision for herself, who should, the government? That’s not any better.
What would be better, a mother on the streets taking money from tax payers whose children are not provided for, or a women, still young, finishing college who has a prosperous future due to an abortion during her junior year in high school. The decision is easy. The future of early mothers should be up to themselves not the government. The child might have had a bad childhood because of the mother and father’s immaturity. Why risk that?
When a man and a woman, in a relationship, believe they are emotionally and financially ready to have a child and agree upon it, not the mention the, hopefully, a stable relationship, they should have a child, out of love. When a child is brought into this world not planned, not wanted, the child becomes emotionally unstable. When the circumstances of the mother and father’s relationship aren’t the best, if the couple is not financially stable and also emotionally together, the innocent child will suffer the consequences. Some believe the parents should have to deal with the effects of unprotected sex, the child will suffer more with a harder childhood.
Some argue that pro-life activists were saddened by the Jewish holocaust and many compare abortion with the holocaust. I found a difference, the victims of this horrific event had a chance, a chance at life, to make what they wanted of that life, and if they took advantage of it was up to them, but their death was after a life, although a short one. As a “fetus,” nothing more than a coming baby, has not experienced a life yet and has not taken it’s first breath giving it legal rights. It wouldn’t be fair to say that someone who has lived their life and committed a crime and now is convicted, to have less rights than an unborn child.
In conclusion, abortion should be a mother’s choice and should be an option to the mother. When events like pregnancy and the birth of a child should be a joyous time not a dreaded, stressful time. In all, the child will suffer, the very innocence anti-choice activists try to protect.
